Job Description

Job Summary:
Guadalupe Union School District seeks a passionate and innovative Music Teacher to inspire students through music education at the elementary and junior high school levels (TK-8). This position offers the opportunity to foster student talents, build foundational skills in instrumental music, and cultivate an appreciation for music within our diverse and vibrant community.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in general music appreciation, instrumental music, and music exploration in alignment with the California State and National Common Core Arts standards.
  • Teach fundamental instrument techniques, guiding student musicians from beginning stages to advanced levels of performance.
  • Organize and manage daily class activities to maximize rehearsal, instruction, and preparation effectively.
  • Select and provide diverse music repertoire appropriate to varying ages and skill levels.
  • Establish clear behavior standards to ensure a productive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
  • Plan, rehearse, and lead student performances for school and community events, fostering community engagement and participation.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, counselors, and colleagues regarding student progress and development.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory and manage the care, use, and storage of musical instruments and equipment.
  • Actively participate in professional development, faculty committees, and extracurricular activities supporting the broader school environment.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the site administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Single Subject Credential in Music or Multiple Subject Credential with Authorization in Music.
  • English Language Learner Authorization required.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering a comprehensive, engaging music program suitable for elementary and junior high school students.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to implement inclusive practices and equitable outcomes for a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Second language proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Previous leadership experience within educational settings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage students actively in musical instruction, including prolonged periods of standing, demonstrating instrumental techniques, and classroom management.
  • Sufficient visual and auditory capabilities for effective instruction and supervision.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music or Music Education required; advanced degrees preferred.
  • Valid California teaching credential with English Learner Authorization (CLAD/BCLAD).
  • Candidates not fully credentialed must be enrolled in a credential program with eligibility for appropriate permits.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Annual salary range: $58,369 – $102,894, dependent on verified teaching experience and educational units.
  • $11,000 contribution toward health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Additional stipends available:
    • $1,000 for BCLAD certification
    • $1,000 for Doctorate degree
    • $1,000 for National Board Certification
  • Credit given for up to 10 years of outside teaching experience and military service.
